EE Outage: Is EE Down or Is the Problem Just Yours?
If your calls are dropping, your broadband has stopped working, or your mobile data has disappeared, you’re probably wondering whether there’s an EE outage affecting your area or if the fault sits with your own device. This guide helps you work out what’s going on and walks you through the checks worth trying before you pick up the phone to customer service.
Is This a Known EE Outage or Just You?
The reports at the top of this page show what other EE customers are currently experiencing. If you’re seeing a spike in reports from your region, there’s a good chance EE is dealing with a wider network problem rather than an issue specific to your home or handset.
Outages can affect mobile signal, 4G and 5G data, broadband, or EE TV separately, so it’s worth checking which service is actually giving you trouble. A fault with your router doesn’t necessarily mean your mobile signal is affected, and vice versa.
Before assuming the worst, check whether the problem is isolated to one device or affects everything connected to your EE service. This one step often narrows down the cause quickly.
What to Try First When EE Isn’t Working
Most connectivity problems have a simple explanation, and many can be fixed without any need to contact EE at all. Work through these steps in order before assuming there’s a wider fault.
- Restart your phone, router or EE Smart Hub, this clears temporary glitches more often than you’d expect
- Check you’re not in airplane mode and that mobile data or WiFi is switched on
- Move to a different room or closer to a window if you’re struggling with signal indoors
- Check your SIM is inserted correctly and hasn’t come loose
- Confirm your account is in good standing, unpaid bills can sometimes suspend services
- Update your phone’s software, as outdated firmware can cause connection issues
Common EE Faults and How to Fix Them
Some problems come up more often than others. The table below covers the faults customers most frequently report, along with practical steps you can take yourself.
| Fault | Likely Cause | What to Try |
|---|---|---|
| No mobile signal | Local network issue, SIM fault, or being in a signal blackspot | Restart your phone, check SIM placement, try toggling airplane mode on and off |
| Broadband not working | Router fault, line issue, or wider network outage | Restart your Smart Hub, check all cables are secure, wait a few minutes and try again |
| Slow mobile data | Network congestion or poor coverage in your area | Switch between 4G and 5G in settings, move to an open area, restart your device |
| Can’t send or receive texts | Temporary network fault or account issue | Restart your phone, check your account balance or plan status via the My EE app |
| WiFi drops intermittently | Router overheating, interference, or firmware issue | Reposition the router away from other electronics, check for firmware updates |
Understanding EE Smart Hub Light Indicators
If your broadband has stopped working, the lights on your EE Smart Hub can tell you a lot about what’s happening before you need to contact anyone. Here’s what the most common indicators generally mean.
| Light Status | What It Usually Means | Suggested Action |
|---|---|---|
| Solid white or blue | Connection is working normally | No action needed |
| Flashing white | Hub is starting up or reconnecting | Wait a few minutes for the connection to establish |
| Solid or flashing red | No internet connection or a line fault | Check cables, restart the hub, contact EE if the issue persists |
| Orange or amber | Hub is updating firmware or performing maintenance | Avoid restarting during this process, let it complete |
If your Smart Hub shows a persistent fault light after restarting and checking connections, this is often a sign the issue needs EE’s direct involvement rather than something you can resolve at home.
When Should You Contact EE Customer Service?
If you’ve worked through the checks above and your service is still down, it’s time to get in touch directly. This is especially true if the problem has lasted more than a few hours or is affecting multiple devices in your household.
You can check live service status and get support through the official EE help page, which includes tools for checking outages in your specific area and guidance tailored to your account.
It’s also worth reporting the fault through the My EE app, as this often gives EE useful diagnostic information about your connection that can speed up any investigation.
